Elementary

CIC Elementary School takes the young students on an educational journey from Nursery to Fifth Grade. This extraordinary journey is full of growth and discovery: each step filled with the magic and miracle of learning.

Students begin their experience in a safe, supportive, and friendly learning environment that provides numerous opportunities to explore and develop their skills. Our highly qualified and trained educational staff guides and nurtures students as they progress through each grade level, encountering increasingly complex material.

Since many of our students do not speak English as their primary language, CIC has a strong English as a Second Language (ESL) Department dedicated to supporting students in learning and mastering English.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students in elementary school participate in the Into Reading Core program, which is aligned with Common Core State Standards. Our goal is to continuously monitor student growth and ensure students are making progress in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and listening/speaking.

MATHEMATICS

The Eureka Math program is used, which is also aligned to Common Core State Standards. Students will be working with teachers learning these concepts via online resources, through playing games, teacher-directed lessons, and using math manipulatives daily.

SCIENCE

The FOSS Next Generation science kits are used to engage students and teachers in enduring experiences that lead to a deeper understanding of the natural and designed world. Units of study for each grade are:

• Grade 5: Mixtures and Solutions, Earth and Sun, and Living Systems;

• Grade 4: Energy, Soils, Rocks, Landforms, and Environments;

• Grade 3: Motion and Matter, Water and Climate, and Structures of Life;

• Grade 2: Solids and Liquids, Pebbles, Sand and Silt, and Insects and Plants;

• Grade 1: Sound and Light, Air and Weather, and Plants and Animals;

• Kinder: Materials and Motion, Trees and Weather, and Animals Two by Two.
